Overtraining Teens can be Dangerous

by admin2 on August 1, 2011

Kids and some parents can be overly enthusiastic about sports especially if they realize that their kid has a great potential to be really great. Some parents even try to tell their children about the old adage of ‘no pain, no gain’. This may have some advantage when the athlete is an adult already however when it is your teenager then going overdrive with the training can prove hazardous. Kids are not only equipped with a still growing body but they need the right amount of rest to be able to grow properly.

Remember that teenagers still possessed immature bones and not only that the growth plates at the end of their bones have cartilage that are still soft and prone to injury when stressed too much. This will only appear stronger once it matures and thus added weight and increase level in training will not pose as a problem. However while your child is still growing, placing too much pressure can damage these cartilage cells and the damaged can have a lifelong effect on the person. They can end up owning a twisted extremity and their limbs could also vary in length. This will not give a good effect if your child wants to continue his training in a sport that he likes when he gets older. The uneven limb may hinder his skill and ability and prevent him from reaching his true potential.

So when training your kid especially in their teens, be careful not to over do it. Sports like Austin soccer can be demanding and require a lot of training for which your child may injure himself. So be aware of these facts and ensure that your child undergoes a safe training as he grows up.
